Project Objective:  

The ME-WE-GREEN Programme aims to drive widespread education and uptake on the use of vetiver grass and the Vetiver System (VS) as a climate resilience tool in rural communities across T&T to do the following:

  •            Support development of livelihoods opportunities in rural communities through the different uses and applications of vetiver grass, namely production and sale of handicrafts, vetiver plants and VS installation services.
  •           Develop sustainability in the application of the VS as a green infrastructure tool in T&T through the introduction and integration of its use among a wide range of stakeholders.
  •             To drive a greater overall awareness about the realities of climate change among rural at-risk communities and wider T&T, and appreciation of vetiver grass and the VS as a green and cost-effective climate resilience solution (to soil and water challenges) which is available to all.
  •            Promote greater overall awareness about the value of nature-based solutions and a sense of care for the environment.

 

 Project Description:  

The ME-WE-GREEN Programme focuses on climate change adaptation by educating and empowering communities to implement the Vetiver System (VS) as a cost-effective solution for soil and water management challenges through the Vetiver Education and Empowerment Project (VEEP) model. The project includes a national education campaign and aims to build climate resilience by conducting workshops, community engagement activities, and the installation of vetiver plants to promote environmental sustainability as well as introducing eco-based livelihood opportunities. The targeted communities are:
