Wayne Simon Rajkumar is the Acting Managing Director of the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) and a seasoned environmental professional with over three decades of experience in environmental management, scientific analysis, and regulatory leadership.

Prior to his appointment as Acting Managing Director, Wayne served as the Senior Manager of Environmental Analysis and Coordination, a role in which he ensured that robust scientific insights translated into well-coordinated, data-driven decisions that supported the EMA’s policies, permitting processes, and environmental oversight functions.

Wayne holds an M.Phil. in Chemistry and a B.Sc. (Hons.) from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. His distinguished career at the EMA includes key leadership roles such as Manager of Technical Services, Assistant Manager of the Water/Waste/GIS Unit, and Technical Coordinator. His technical and analytical strengths are grounded in his earlier professional experiences as a research chemist and science educator, providing him with a strong foundation in both applied and academic aspects of environmental science.

Over the years, Wayne has contributed significantly to national environmental advancement through work on major initiatives, including the development of the Water Pollution Rules, national ambient water quality standards, and several environmental remediation programmes. He has also authored scientific papers on Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) concentrations along the East–West Corridor and led Trinidad and Tobago’s first-ever Blood Lead Level Survey in primary school children.

Wayne has represented the country on several regional and international bodies, including the Stockholm Convention Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee and the Global Mercury Assessment Working Group, demonstrating his commitment to global environmental governance.

As Acting Managing Director, Wayne is dedicated to leveraging innovative technologies, rigorous scientific assessment, and collaborative stakeholder engagement to enhance regulatory effectiveness and promote sustainable environmental practices. His commitment to technical excellence and environmental stewardship continues to guide the Authority’s mission to protect and conserve Trinidad and Tobago’s natural environment.
