Dr. Joth Singh

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Environmental Management Authority

Dr. Joth Singh joins the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) from the global conservation organization The Nature Conservancy (TNC), where he most recently served as Senior Director of Policy and Geography Programs for TNC’s Caribbean Division, based at the organization’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. In this role, he led initiatives focused on policy development, public funding, and strategic partnerships, while overseeing programs in climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and oceans management.

Prior to joining TNC, Dr. Singh held senior leadership positions across a range of international, regional, and national organizations, working extensively throughout the Caribbean and in Trinidad and Tobago. His distinguished career has spanned multiple areas of environmental management and sustainable development, including service as Technical Director of CARICOM’s Caribbean Environmental Health Institute (CEHI); Executive Director of the Caribbean Conservation Association (CCA); International Director of Wildlife and Habitat at the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW); Environment Specialist and Program Development Specialist with USAID’s Eastern and Southern Caribbean Mission; and Program Manager responsible for establishing and managing the USD 60 million sinking fund for the Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Facility of the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF). He also previously led the Environmental Management Authority of Trinidad and Tobago from 2008 to 2013.

Through these diverse leadership roles, Dr. Singh has developed extensive expertise in organizational leadership, change management, project management, policy, sustainable finance, environmental legislation and regulations, sustainability, climate change, biodiversity conservation, waste management and the circular economy, coastal zone management, and water resources management.

Dr. Singh holds a Ph.D. from the University of the West Indies, an MSc in Environmental Management from the University of London, and a BSc in Natural Sciences from the University of the West Indies. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship funded by Canada’s National Sciences and Engineering Research Council, conducting ecotoxicology research at Dalhousie University and the Bedford Institute of Oceanography.

A native of Trinidad, Dr. Singh developed a deep appreciation for nature while exploring the island’s rich landscapes with his family. He continues to spend as much time as possible enjoying and connecting with the natural world.
