The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) engaged event promoters and venue holders from
Trinidad and Tobago’s events and entertainment sector on the Noise Variation process and responsible noise
management during a recent stakeholder engagement held at the EMA’s North Office Conference Room.
An overview of the Noise Pollution Control Rules, 2001 (as amended) (NPCR), was presented, which
establishes the regulatory framework for managing noise pollution in Trinidad and Tobago through the Event
Noise Variation process. The engagement provided stakeholders with practical information on the process,
including how to apply, the requirements that must be satisfied, associated costs and the circumstances under
which a Noise Variation is required. Stakeholders were reminded that where an event is expected to exceed
the prescribed noise standards, the applicant must first apply for and receive a Noise Variation before the
event takes place.
