Media Release – The EMA strengthens environmental awareness among tour operators in Tobago

The Environmental Management Authority (EMA), through its Biodiversity Unit, recently
hosted a sensitisation session at the Department of Natural Resources and Forestry
(DNRF) in Tobago. This session was convened in response to reports from members of the
public highlighting instances of unsustainable tourism practices. It follows a sensitisation
session for tour operators, held in Trinidad earlier this year. Both sessions aimed to
educate tour operators about Environmentally Sensitive Species (ESSs) and
Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESAs), as well as raise awareness of the relevant
legislation, permits, approvals, and best practice guidelines for environmentally
responsible operations.
